NFL Mock Draft season is in full effect after the Senior Bowl wrapped up over the weekend and the Combine is right around the corner. You already know that NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen is working overtime in looking at prospects who he thinks can help improve this team for the long haul.
When it comes to 2023 draft targets, there’s countless studs out there for NY to look at. In his latest mock for ESPN, insider Matt Miller has the Giants taking some intriguing prospects in the first two rounds: wideout Jaylin Hyatt and Wisconsin offensive lineman Joe Tipmann.
ESPN has the NY Giants taking Jaylin Hyatt in the first round
"“If you watch a couple of games from the Giants’ 2022 season, it’s painfully obvious the team’s biggest need is at wide receiver — as long as quarterback Daniel Jones is either franchise-tagged or re-signed,” Miller wrote. “The signal-caller took a huge step in his development but now needs help around him to further that growth. The only players on the roster to catch more than 50 passes in 2022 were a running back (Saquon Barkley, 57) and a journeyman receiver (Richie James, 57).”"
Miller noted the importance of a star wideout for Daniel Jones and we don’t disagree with him. There are several WR-needy teams picking in front of the Giants, so the expectation is that Jordan Addison, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Quentin Johnston will all be off the board.
That would leave Hyatt as the next best available WR for the G-Men to select. He was a stud for Tennessee last season, hauling in 67 balls for 1,267 yards and an eye-opening 15 touchdowns.
As for Tippman, the 6-6, 317 pounder could step in and take over at center for the Giants. When the Giants signed Jon Feliciano, the hope was that he’d be able to be a stud center for the G-Men, but that wasn’t the case this past season, as he was far too inconsistent.
A lot of fans are hoping Feliciano isn’t brought back and a young hoss can make an impact for the line. Tippman would check a lot of boxes and be quite the get if he’s still available in the second round when the Giants pick No. 57 overall.
