4 ways Daniel Jones’ selfishness could hurt the NY Giants this offseason
2. Daniel Jones contract talks will also impact Saquon Barkley
While a lot of focus is on Danny Dimes, keep in mind that Schoen also needs to figure out what to do with Saquon Barkley. Per multiple reports, the Giants prefer to figure out long-term deals for both players – if possible, Schoen would like to avoid having to use the franchise tag on either one here.
However, Schoen may not have a choice if Jones doesn’t lower his number. Say the Giants do end up using the franchise tag for Jones. That would mean that the G-Men would either have to sign No. 26 to a multi-year deal, or let him walk in free agency and potentially ink with a new team down the road.
No one wants to even think about Barkley suiting up for a different squad, as several teams would surely line up in hopes of inking him. Barkley is reportedly eyeing something around $14-15 million per season. He turned down about $12 million a year during the bye week. With Jones’ status up in the air, it’s only hurting Barkley’s talks too.
