CBS connects the NY Giants with a speedy Kansas City Chiefs WR in free agency
Free agency is here and it’s as beautiful as ever. For the NY Giants and general manager Joe Schoen, there’s several positions where they’ll need to upgrade, but countless eyes are on the wide receivers room. Thus far, Schoen has re-signed both Isaiah Hodgins and Sterling Shepard, but more work needs to be done.
So, how about Kansas City Chiefs free agent WR Mecole Hardman making a move to East Rutherford? Hardman is looking for his next payday and there’s several teams showing interest in him. If you ask CBS’ Jared Dubin, Hardman landing in the NFC East to make plays for Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka makes a whole lot of sense.
NY Giants signing Mecole Hardman would be fantastic to see
"“The Giants need to upgrade the weaponry around Daniel Jones, newly signed to a $40 million-per-year contract,” Dubin wrote. “Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka used to be the quarterbacks coach in Kansas City, so he likely knows Hardman’s skill set well. He wouldn’t be blocked by more talented players in New York like he was in K.C., so perhaps he could take the next step forward in his career. His dynamic speed would allow Kafka to use him in a variety of ways, and he’d be a good fit for the low-average-depth-of-target offense they ran with Jones last year.”"
Dubin goes on to call Hardman a ‘good fit’ for the G-Men and plenty of people would agree with him there. Hardman is known for his electric speed, as he can really create some magic in the open field.
This past season catching balls from Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs, the 5-10, 187-pound Hardman only appeared in eight games due to injury, posting 25 receptions for 295 yards and four touchdowns.
While he might not be considered the WR1 option that fans are hoping for, he’d surely be a solid addition for this offense. There’s going to be plenty of names linked to the Giants over the next few weeks, but a fully healthy Hardman truly could be a playmaker for Daniel Jones in 2023.
