With the NY Giants losing third-string quarterback Davis Webb to the coaching ranks, Big Blue is in need of a new No. 3 signal-caller for 2023 and beyond. Daniel Jones is the man to run the offense in East Rutherford, while Tyrod Taylor is his backup.

While this position is certainly not the most important on the field, as the odds of both QBs getting hurt in the same week are incredibly slim, it is still one that needs to be filled. Considering that the Giants’ cap space has continued to dwindle due to the signings or trades the team has made, it could make sense to simply select a player in the later parts of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Obviously the Giants won’t be taking anyone in the first, second, or even third round of the draft. However, adding a player come Day 3 could have some pretty good benefits to the team moving forward. So, will this be a move that Joe Schoen makes?

The Giants should draft a QB at some point in the 2023 NFL Draft

For starters, the available free-agent QBs that would want to take on a reserve role are limited as is, let alone those who the Giants would want to pay the veteran minimum. So, while it may be nice to bring in a more “guaranteed” option at quarterback, drafting someone simply makes more sense for a ton of reasons.

Bringing in a rookie QB to play both behind Jones and Taylor for next season will not only allow said player to take time to develop into a better backup, but they could also allow the Giants to move on from Taylor following the 2023 season and save a ton of money at QB2 depending on how they look.

There are so many options in terms of late-round quarterbacks that could come in and provide some value as a reserve QB while also potentially taking snaps if need be. Names like Malik Cunningham and maybe even Stetson Bennett are all very intriguing for the fifth round (or later).

Again, the G-Men won’t be using a first-rounder on a QB, but if there’s a solid option in the fifth round or beyond, then it could be a good idea for Schoen to bring in a signal-caller. This will be something to monitor come draft weekend.
