Since the end of the 2022 season, Joe Schoen and the New York Giants have attempted to re-tool the roster in a big way. With the return of Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, Darius Slayton, and Sterling Shepard the team has brought back several key players. Through trades and free agency, they have added potential building blocks in Darren Waller, Bobby Okereke, and Parris Campbell. But there is still room for improvement.
Even with the additions that this team has made, there are still areas in need of improvement. On the defensive side of the ball, this comes at cornerback. Luckily for Schoen and the Giants, there are still several great options available in free agency. And based on how the market has played out, many of these players could potentially be signed on team-friendly deals. Here’s our look at three guys NY can still go after:
3. CB Bryce Callahan
If the Giants are looking to add an established veteran alongside Adoree’ Jackson, Bryce Callahan could be near the top of their list. Callahan, who has been a reliable option since entering the NFL in 2015, has put together seven strong seasons.
After going undrafted in 2015, Callahan joined the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agency. During his four seasons with the team, he developed into a borderline CB1. While taking the field in 45 games, he recorded 123 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks, 20 defended passes, and four interceptions.
Following four seasons in Chicago, Callahan made the move to the Denver Broncos. Over two years with the team, and 21 games, he recorded 71 total tackles and nine defended passes.
In 2022, Callahan proved to still be playing at a high level. While spending the season with the Los Angeles Chargers, he appeared in 15 games, while starting 11 of them. He finished the season recording 47 total tackles, six defended passes, and three interceptions.
If Callahan can put together another season similar to what he did in 2022, he could still be a reliable option at cornerback. A duo of him and Jackson could be exactly what this defense needs.
