3 changes Giants must make this offseason to avoid another disaster in 2025

The New York Giants apparently didn't think their 2024 season was too much of a disaster. Their decision to retain head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen after winning just four games and napalming their quarterback room might get some fans extremely irritated with how the team is operating.

John Mara seems to be trusting his coach and GM to figure out what went wrong and get things turned around as soon as possible. The old guard is still in charge, which means they will need to improve upon their terrible 2024 in record time.

If the Giants want to get back to being the Giants of old, they need to start off the offseason with these three goals firmly at the front of their mind. The rebuild may not be underway, but the pressure sure is.

3 changes Giants must make ahead of 2025 season

3. Spend money in the secondary

With the 2025 NFL Draft standing out as a very top-heavy class that may not be able to provide Schoen with a ton of mid-round talent, the Giants need to peruse free agency for some of the best players as they try to fix one of the league's worst pass defenses on the fly.

Tyler Nubin looks solid, but the regression of Deonte Banks and lack of depth makes this the biggest defensive area of need. This division is going to eat the Giants alive if they roll into 2025 with essentially the same secondary as they had before.

2. Land a high-end quarterback

The Giants won't go anywhere in a division featuring Dak Prescott, Jayden Daniels, and Jalen Hurts without a quality quarterback. Free agents like Sam Darnold will be out there, and Derek Carr could shake loose if a total rebuild is underway in New Orleans. The draft could be another way this team could add talent.

If the Titans and Browns pass on either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, which is entirely possible due to the presence of Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, the Giants can try to pair a young star with Daboll and Malik Nabers.

1. Force John Mara to take a step back

The Giants have an image of a gold star franchise, while the cross-town rival Jets are viewed as the picture of dysfunction. However, both New York teams have the worst point differential in the league in the last 10 years. Outside of a complete fluke playoff win, the Giants are just as dysfunctional.

While Woody Johnson takes a more hands-on approach to creating a toxic environment, Mara's overly patient attitude and ability to be easily influenced have created a culture that has run through six different head coaches since 2015 and is almost on the verge of No. 7. If Mara doesn't change his ways, things won't get better.
