The New York Giants are in the market for a quarterback, but it may be difficult to find one this offseason. If Sam Darnold doesn't sign in free agency, the Giants might be stuck with trying to pick one up in a 2025 NFL Draft Class that has quickly become infamous for a general lack of talent at that position.
The Giants, who have the No. 3 overall pick, seem destined to miss out on either Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Sheduer Sanders unless either the Tennessee Titans or Cleveland Browns get better ideas. Alabama's Jalen Milroe was regarded as the No. 3 prospect, but his stock has fallen off a cliff.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, who has been on a wild ride over the last few years after starting as the No. 1 recruit in high school and fighting through a very up-and-down tenure with the Longhorns, has officially put his name in the ring for the 2025 NFL Draft.
If the Giants want to add a quarterback in the middle rounds, Ewers is by far and away the best candidate they could pick. Ewers has the accuracy, production, and processing speed this coaching staff could covet when the Draft rolls around.
3 reasons the Giants should add Texas QB Quinn Ewers in NFL Draft
Ewers would join an offensive coach in Brian Daboll should the Giants pick him up. While Daboll's work with Josh Allen seems like eons ago, the same developmental magic that helped Allen go from an underperforming Wyoming product to an MVP could help Ewers become a quality starter.
The Giants' offensive structure, outside of quarterback, is by no means bad. Malik Nabers is a future star at the receiver position, the offensive line is much better than it has been in past years due to the emergence of Andrew Thomas, and Tyrone Tracy has given the Giants a passable running game without Saquon Barkley.
With New York almost guaranteed to add a veteran quarterback in the offseason, there's a good chance Ewers won't be rushed into action in Week 1. This could help him iron out rough edges in his game.
Ewers is accurate, has a good football brain, and can make plays out of structure. If Daboll can fix his mechanics and work on getting the most out of an average arm, Ewers could be the quarterback he needs to put the Jones era in the past and move forward with a new direction.
