3 reasons the NY Giants will upset the Eagles in a huge Week 7 clash
Despite coming off a frustrating Sunday Night Football loss at home last week to the Cincinnati Bengals and sitting at 2-4 through the season's first six weeks, the NY Giants have plenty of reasons to be optimistic ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
This highly-anticipated matchup has been circled on the Giants' schedule since the start of the season because of the events that took place last free agency, which several players took personally. The Giants will look to get back in the win column and earn their first NFC East victory of the season this Sunday. Let's look at three reasons the Giants will upset the Eagles this week:
3. The Giants defense will rise to the occasion
Saquon Barkley's return to MetLife Stadium will motivate Dexter Lawrence and the Giants to shut down the former Big Blue running back, who took the two-time Pro Bowler's departure from the team personally last offseason. Look out for Lawrence to stop the run and get to quarterback Jalen Hurts this week. Lawrence has the second-most sacks in the league this season behind Detroit Lions' defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.
While edge-rusher Kayvon Thibodueax was placed on the Injured Reserve list by the team earlier this week after successful surgery for his wrist injury, the Giants defensive line is loaded with Lawrence and Brian Burns, who returned to practice after initially being named questionable and will be playing on Sunday against the Eagles. If the Giants' defensive line can stop Barkley and the Eagles' run this week, Big Blue will beat Philadelphia.
2. The run game will get going against the Eagles
Not only will the Giants have their weapons on defense this week, but they will on offense too as rookie standout wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Devin Singletary will return this Sunday after being sidelined with injuries the last two weeks. While rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. will take on a more significant role after back-to-back impressive performances, Singletary will add a much-needed boost to the Giants backfield. The Giants will use both running backs to Philadelphia's advantage, as the Eagle's defense is ranked 25th in the league in yards per rush. We can expect to see Tracy as a pass-catcher, as he played receiver in college before switching to running back.
1. The return of Malik Nabers is massive for the Giants
Before Nabers' concussion in Week 4, the 2024 first-round pick looked sensational. The first-rounder had proven that he can be a playmaker on the Giants' offense and is a WR1, which the G-Men haven't had since Odell Beckham Jr. in 2018. Nabers has also emerged as quarterback Daniel Jones' favorite target on offense, as the rookie averaged 91 percent of snaps through the first four weeks and was targeted 52 times. He has 35 receptions, 386 yards, and three touchdowns on the season, and now we can expect him to have another good performance, as the Eagles rank 21st in pass defense, averaging 218.4 passing yards allowed.
