Abdul Carter is single-handedly tearing up Giants camp one rep at a time

This is getting (delightfully) out of hand.

Friday's training camp practice has been the Abdul Carter highlight party. Seriously, the 21-year-old rookie has been absolutely dominating literally every single rep. Not one member of the New York Giants' offense is safe from his wrath.

When the G-Men selected him third overall in the draft, fans, teammates, and the front office knew he was going to be good... but maybe not this good, and likely not this early. Seemingly every practice he gets that much better. Which is great news for Big Blue, and not so great news for everyone else.

Carter treated Friday's practice like a walkthrough, putting offensive linemen in spin-zones and sending quarterbacks sprinting out of the pocket. His performance was so impressive and ridiculous that it deserves its own place to be fully appreciated. So, here it is.

Abdul Carter is going to be a nightmare for offensive lines

His first victim of the day was Jon Runyan Jr., who looked lost in one-on-ones while trying to stay in front of the twitched-up rook. Carter showed off his impressive spin move with a quick fake to the outside, right into the blender, leaving Runyan in a compromised position.

It then took Carter less than half a second to plant his foot in the ground and accelerate right past the starting guard, making the whole rep look effortless.

The 21-year-old followed his Runyan performance up by picking on the much-maligned starting center, John Michael-Schmitz. It's been no secret that JMS has been struggling in camp, but Carter might have done him in with this one.

The pass rusher didn't need much more than a quick stutter-step, turned head fake, turned all gas, no breaks, blow-by on the third-year veteran. The — great... or terrible, depending on how you look at it — problem is that it's just so effortless for the kid. Like that's insane.

But wait! You thought we were done? Not so fast, my friend!

On another rep, the linebacker puts his hand in the dirt, times the snap perfectly, and explodes through the line without a millisecond lost. It's not every day a pass rusher has the athleticism, agility, and explosion to run through an offensive line untouched, but these are the types of reps he's putting up close to every day.

At this point, it’s hard to tell if Carter’s making a case for Defensive Rookie of the Year or just casually exposing every crack in the Giants’ offensive protection plan. Maybe both. And while head coach Brian Daboll and crew are probably loving what they’re seeing from No. 51, they also might want to start asking some serious questions about the guys tasked with keeping the franchise quarterback upright.

If this is what Carter’s doing in early August, imagine what happens when the games actually count.
