Every update regarding the New York Giants' stalemate with star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is worse than the last — because they are. The two sides are clearly at odds with no clear resolution in sight, leaving many on pins and needles, including his teammates, namely Brian Burns.

By now, Burns has made his stance on the matter crystal clear: he doesn't want to see Lawrence wearing any other uniform, and rightfully so. Like every Giants fan, the former recognizes how important the latter is to the franchise.

"Speaking for me, the Giants ain't the Giants without No. 97 in the middle," Burned stated, via Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post ($). "So we are going to figure that out to keep [Lawrence] here, regardless, I hope. That's my boy. And I don't want to play this season or any other season without him."

Brian Burns says what every Giants fan is thinking about Dexter Lawrence saga

It seems as if everyone besides the Giants understands that Lawrence's presence is felt throughout the organization. He's been the heartbeat of the club's defense since entering the NFL as a first-round pick out of Clemson in 2019. His value on and off the field can't be overstated, and by the sound of it, Burns couldn't agree more.

Burns evidently realizes exactly what his pass-rushing mate brings to the table. There's no denying that he's one of football's most dangerous edge players. However, without Lawrence, the ex-Carolina Panther doesn't finish second in the league in sacks (16.5) and earn his first career All-Pro nod in 2025.

Ensuring Lawrence sticks around isn't just crucial to the Giants' success moving forward. He's an integral part of the locker room whose leadership goes beyond the gridiron. Meeting his demands for a raise figure to keep the peace and other core members of the squad, like Burns, happy.

Not to mention, the Giants are ushering in a new regime led by head coach John Harbaugh. What kind of message does a stalemate with Lawrence send? This is the worst time to be at a crossroads with a foundational piece of the group.

The Giants' brain trust has remained optimistic that cooler heads will eventually prevail, though their actions suggest otherwise. Contract negotiations between them and Lawrence have reportedly "broken off," which is an alarming development. Meanwhile, New York is entertaining trade offers for the three-time Pro Bowler.
