Brian Daboll's frustrating comments prove why Giants need leadership change

Something's gotta give.

It's become clear the New York Giants need to fire head coach Brian Daboll, and the Week 9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers was the latest proof of that. In the 34-24 defeat, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart played well, but the defense had no answer for San Francisco's offense, as Christian McCaffrey made it a long game.

After the Giants' third straight loss, Dabs did nothing to help his case, admitting he felt there was no disconnect between the players and coaches. Moreover, much to the dismay of the fanbase, Daboll also said that there will be no changes in defensive coordinator Shane Bowen's job status.

It's becoming increasingly apparent that the fourth-year head coach is losing the locker room, and even Dart's emergence won't be enough to save his job. Patience is wearing thin for the 2-7 G-Men, and it seems like it would be a massive surprise if Daboll isn't fired by the end of the regular season.

Brian Daboll has absolutely zero grasp on Giants locker room

For a man who hasn't had a winning season as head coach since his first season at the helm, you'd think he would be better at explaining himself after a loss. The Giants are headed for their third straight losing season, and the longer Daboll stay, the worse it will be for Dart's development.

Bowen's defense has given up a staggering 105 points across the last three games, so it should be no surprise that the unit is near the bottom of the NFL in practically every defensive category. But Daboll's continued loyalty to this clearly underqualified coordinator is making things even worse.

At least Schoen has hit on draft picks like Dart, Abdul Carter, and Malik Nabers over the last two seasons, and his considerable improvement could turn out to be enough to save his job. However, Daboll has gotten far worse over time, and it's clear that he is completely beyond saving.

With that said, firing one but not the other would be complete malpractice. If the Giants want to successfully complete their rebuild centered around their rookie phenom, then a change in leadership is the first step towards ending the playoff drought.

The ex-Coach of the Year was heralded as a "QB guru" for his work with Josh Allen in Buffalo, and he's done a good job helping the 22-year-old Dart adjust to the pros, but the rest of the roster is pitiful. The offense clearly misses Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers, and the defense's only redeeming quality is the defensive line.

The Giants need a coach like Todd Monken or Jesse Minter to take over in order to right the many wrongs in East Rutherford, as clearly fans are over the current regime.
