The New York Giants traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to land Jaxson Dart, hoping to find their next franchise quarterback. The move came after the team signed veteran QBs Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, rounding out what might be the most complete quarterback room the Giants have had in years.

Naturally, much of the offseason attention has centered on Wilson — and rightfully so. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have quite literally hitched their futures to his success. Another down year for Big Blue and it will very likely be someone else calling the shots by next spring.

Still, the long-term play is Dart. The plan has always been to let him develop behind the scenes while Wilson holds things down. Giants fans remember the Daniel Jones experiment all too well: they threw him in wayyy too early with no backup plan. No one wants to see that movie again. But there’s already buzz about Dart’s readiness and whether he could see the field sooner than expected.

Brian Daboll keeps it simple when asked about Jaxson Dart

When Daboll took the podium on Day 1 of training camp, he didn’t offer any dramatic declarations or depth chart hints (shocker). But when asked about Dart’s goals for the upcoming season, he didn’t hesitate. His answer consisted of just five words:

“To get better every day.”

Short, sweet, and classic Dabs. Of course, that’s easier said than done when you’re playing quarterback in the NFL. Development takes time — and a whole lot of patience — but the early signs from the rookie have been promising.

His follow-up comments might say it all: “You saw leadership, you saw arm talent, you saw athleticism (this spring), he’s a rookie — he’s got a long way to go.”

The Giants aren’t overcomplicating this. Dart’s job right now is to learn behind veterans, pick up the offense, and improve every day. That’s all Daboll is asking for, and that’s all anyone should expect. The team has already rushed one quarterback before, and they’re not making that mistake again. This is about building the right way, even if it takes time.

Fans will get their first taste of real QB competition as training camp starts Wednesday.
