Brian Daboll points out obvious flaw for Giants offense that's on Daniel Jones
There's no other way to put it: the NY Giants have been far too inconsistent in getting the ball down the field with explosive plays. Against the Seahawks, Daniel Jones turned heads in that department, which finally came after years of fans asking the Football Gods for a miracle.
Against the Bengals, though, the Giants couldn't take advantage of big plays. The one time they did, a 50+ yard gain for Darius Slayton, the ball was brought back due to a penalty on Andrew Thomas. Time and time again, too, Jones misses on his deep throws. This is something Brian Daboll knows can't continue to be the case moving forward:
Daniel Jones and the Giants need to improve on their explosive plays
With Malik Nabers out of action, Jones depended on Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt to push the ball. Slayton had a pair of drops in primetime, while Hyatt finished with one receptions for six yards. He looked disinterested on some of his routes, which can't be the case.
Getting Nabers back on the field vs. the Eagles will surely help things out, but if Jones keeps missing on some of his throws, it's not going to matter much if the No. 6 overall pick is suited up to take on Philly. He simply has to be better here.
It's not all on Danny Dimes, however. There have been some infuriating drops by his wideouts, which can't be excused either. At the same time, Jones is also making the kinds of mistakes you'd expect from a first-year signal-caller, not someone in Year 6.
At the end of the day, the offense is going to thrive or struggle behind the right arm of the veteran quarterback. Against the Bengals, Jones short-armed some balls and tossed one of the worst interceptions you'll see. He must improve for his team to have a chance to post wins. Jones knows that, and so does Daboll.
