The New York Giants may not have won many games this year, but they brought an excitement factor to fans, something they haven't done in recent years. Rookie running back Cam Skattebo was a major player in that, as his explosive, bulldozing play style was one that Giants fans couldn't help but love. Not to mention his infectious personality.

But on Sunday, the good vibes left the Giants fanbase after Skattebo suffered a gruesome ankle injury that had players on both the Giants and Philadelphia Eagles horrified. Skattebo was carted off of the field to a round of applause from Eagles fans, where he was taken to a local hospital. Later that night, Skattbo underwent surgery on what was determined to be an open dislocation of his right ankle.
On Monday evening, Skattebo sent out a message to Giants fans, thanking everyone for their support and promising to come back stronger than ever. Skattebo also gave thanks to the doctors, surgeons, and medical staff at the hospital, and the entire city of Philadelphia.

"Thank you everyone for the support!! Surgery went well," writes Skattebo. "I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me. Every moment I spent in the hospital with family and friends I felt loved and supported in every way thank you to the doctors, surgeons, and staff that did their best work on me. This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me, stick the course and it will all work itself out, BRB."
Skattebo is now in step one of his recovery, as his rookie season appears to be over, considering the circumstances.
ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported on Monday that the reason Skattebo underwent surgery so quickly on Sunday was due to the fact he had an open dislocation, deeming it an emergency situation. An open dislocation means that the joint of the ankle moved out of place and broke through the skin.
The Eagles sent over their well-wishes, with chief of security Dom DiSandro visiting Skattebo and dropped off pizza and cheesesteaks for the Giants rookie, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Skattebo initially served as a backup to Tyrone Tracy, but he eventually took over the starter's role. Skattebo's biggest game arrived against the Eagles on Thursday Night Fooball, where he ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. This season, Skattebo recorded 410 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 101 carries, while catching 24-of-32 targets for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
The Giants have already lost Malik Nabers for the sesaon to a torn ACL. Now, Skattebo is likely done for the year after providing the team and fanbase with hope in just eight games. His rookie year might be over, but fans can't wait for him to come back better than ever as he begins his recovery from ankle surgery.
