Chiefs completely crushed a Matt Nagy reunion that made too much sense

Tyquan Thornton made a lot of sense for the Giants before re-signing with the Chiefs.

Since the NFL legal tampering window period opened on Monday, the New York Giants have been very busy addressing several positions. They have several notable free agents, such as tight end Isaiah Likely, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, cornerback Greg Newsome II, kicker Jason Sanders, and fullback Pat Ricard, but they still have more work to do.

The G-Men have seen four of their own free agents leave the Giants for the Titans, following Brian Daboll, suggesting he may not have lost the locker room while in New York. The biggest names heading to Tennessee include cornerback Cor’Dale Flott and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, which means John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen have to quickly find replacements for them.

Newsome II helps their secondary as he can slide into the CB2 role with Paulson Adebo playing CB1, but the Giants should continue to add to defensive backs and safeties in a Dennard Wilson-led defense through the draft. The Giants should also look to add to their offensive line, specifically at guard, but one area they should target is wide receiver, as they look for a Wan’Dale replacement.

Tyquan Thornton would've been the perfect Wan'Dale replacement

One player who would’ve made a lot of sense for Big Blue to sign is veteran wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, who is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs on a two-year, $11 million deal. The 25-year-old is coming off his best season with a career-high 438 receiving yards on 19 receptions, including three touchdowns.

Thornton also had an impressive Sunday Night performance in the Chiefs’ 22-9 Week 3 victory over the Giants at MetLife Stadium, where he had five catches on nine targets for 71 yards and a third-quarter touchdown. He clearly would’ve been a nice fit playing in New Jersey on Sundays.

The real reason I believe the veteran wideout would’ve been a good fit as the Giants’ WR2 behind Malik Nabers is because of his connection to Big Blue’s new offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, who was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator last season.

In an interview with Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Thornton spoke about his relationship with his former OC and said that he keeps it “AAF," which stands for Aggressive as... Well, you can figure out the rest, but the point is Thornton offered some reassurance to any Giants fans who may be doubting Nagy, and clearly clicked when they worked together.
