Colin Cowherd said something that quietly hits Giants fans and Jaxson Dart

No, this isn't a joke. He said something that makes perfect sense.

Since the New York Giants named Jaxson Dart their starting quarterback this week, the reactions have come in aplenty.

"Outside of four quarterbacks on the planet, quarterback play is circumstancial. Who's your coach? Who's your coordinator? What's your O-line like?

"With young quarterbacks, it's almost entirely circumstancial. You got to learn the language. You got to learn the locker room. You got to learn the coordinator's playbook. You got to learn the tricks," he said.

In a roundabout way, Colin Cowherd told Giants fans not to worry about Jaxson Dart

"Trust your eyes. Do you see a great trait? ... As long as they have a very good work ethic, they're committed, it'll be fine," he ended.

Now, Cowherd was actually referencing quarterbacks like Bo Nix, Michael Penix, CJ Stroud among a couple others. But, this take plays perfectly with Dart's era only getting going in New York.

Dart gets to take on a Los Angeles Chargers defense that's been stout beneath defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, thus far, and in his first start. That's not an easy task. There is something to be said about Dart being thrown into the fire against a difficult defense, but that's neither here nor there.

The fact of the matter is, odds are against him. He is making his first start after sitting on the bench just three games. Dart is going to struggle at times. He is going to make mistakes. He is going to have moments where Giants fans want to overreact and wonder if the team made a mistake.

But, rookie quarterbacks are rarely ones who come out and explode onto the scene. And, if they do, the NFL consistently figures them out the next year. Dart will have growing pains. He might look phenomenal in spurts. But, he will have his share of struggles.

The important thing to remember, like Cowherd said, is to be patient with him and understand his circumstances. Just the mere fact that he's playing for a head coach desperately trying to save his own job, in Brian Daboll, is a huge factor. Maybe Daboll is playing him too soon, maybe not.

There are a lot of factors at play, but the one constant has to be Giants fans being patient and not overreacting one way or another, but especially not to the extreme negative. Give it time. And, as Cowherd said, hopefully he'll be just fine.
