Sometimes, the bottom line finds a way of sneaking in and absolutely, brutally destroying plans. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New York Giants officially announced Tuesday that rookie Jaxson Dart will be the team's new starting quarterback moving forward.
This is the moment all Giants fans have been waiting for since April. They'll finally get to see their shiny rookie play on Sunday, in what's bound to be a tough Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Even though it'll be a tough debut, it's hard not to feel an overwhelming sense of relief realizing Daboll kicked the tires on the Russ Bus.
Wilson is moving to the bench, in one of the more unsurprising moves of Big Blue's season. The writing was on the wall as soon as Joe Schoen traded back into the first round to select the 22-year-old out of Ole Miss. The 14-year veteran's clear demise, along with Dart's impressive preseason, likely made this an easy decision. Even still, not one month ago, Daboll was preaching patience, throwing full support behind the 36-year-old as the guy. Life sure comes at you fast in the NFL.
New York Giants announce Jaxson Dart will get first start in Week 4 vs Chargers
Well, that escalated quickly. Three weeks into the season, and the G-Men are making arguably the biggest change of the Daboll-Schoen era... and it's hard to blame them.
The pair was already entering the 2025 season on thin ice — if there was any ice at all — and following three inconsistent weeks of Wilson quarterback play and zero wins, this was a relatively easy move to make. Let alone Big Blue Nation making it clear this was what they wanted during their Week 3 MetLife "We want Dart" chants.
If this front office and coaching staff are going to live another day, they need to pivot. After a surprising 9-7-1 playoff run in 2022, they've gone a humiliating 9-28 since, including losing 14 of their last 15 games. That is what we call a recipe for toasted buns. And it's just insulting to fans.
The move is smart on the regime's part, seeing as though this will likely buy them a little more time, as well. Whether owner John Mara had any say in the decision or not remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: this team instantly became more entertaining and easier to root for.
Dart will look to build off one of the most impressive preseasons in recent memory against a very tough Chargers team, led by one of the more stout defenses in the league. But honestly... who cares about any of that? Jaxson Dart is officially the new starting quarterback of the New York Giants and it's all up from here.
