The tight end room in Miami just got a little more crowded — because while the New York Giants were busy trimming theirs, the Dolphins were quietly trying to fix a problem of their own.
As reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, former Big Blue tight end Greg Dulcich is signing with the Dolphins’ practice squad. He didn’t make the cut in New York despite leading the team in preseason touchdowns and building real chemistry with rookie quarterback sensation Jaxson Dart. The hope was that the 25-year-old would slide onto the practice squad and hang around as an emergency option. But sometimes plans change.

An opportunity for one of the NFL's preseason leaders to potentially get elevate and play quickly.
It’s a fresh start for the former UCLA Bruin, who saw his career stall in Denver before flashing again with the G-Men. And now he lands in a tight end room where the starter — (funny enough) former Giant Darren Waller — still hasn’t proven he’s ready to play actual football.
Greg Dulcich joins Darren Waller in Miami after Giants roster cut
It’s been a minute since Miami out of nowhere traded for Waller, and he still hasn’t practiced in full pads. He was just activated off the PUP list, but there’s a difference between being off a list and actually being ready for gameday.
The Phins have spent all of August slow-playing his return, giving generic updates and ducking every question about whether Waller is in game shape.
This is a guy who retired, then unretired, then forced his way to Miami. Just walked away from football, took some time off, and came back when a move to South Beach sounded nice ahead of the cold season. Miami took the bait, and now they’re stuck trying to ease him back without saying why he isn’t practicing.
From the Giants’ perspective, this couldn’t have worked out better. They actually moved Waller for a draft pick. They got a surprisingly strong camp from Dulcich. And now that he’s off to Miami, they don’t even have to second-guess the tight end room they kept.
Theo Johnson’s the starter. Chris Manhertz is the in-line guy. Seventh-round rookie Thomas Fidone II is the project. Daniel Bellinger’s role is duplicative, but he stuck. There wasn’t a clear spot for Dulcich unless the team carried five, which they would never do. And if we're being honest, Dulcich is essentially just a bigger receiver anyway. He wasn't going to offer much else, which makes his release sting a little less. It's still tough losing talent for nothing.
Dulcich saw a better path to the field with the Dolphins, and he took it. Waller still hasn’t suited up, and the season opener is right around the corner. No one’s writing him off completely, but the longer this drags out, the more it looks like Miami gave up assets for a guy who’s closer to retirement than return.
Football is so back.
