DeAndre Hopkins trade wipes out potential landing spot for pair of NY Giants WRs

What is it with teams trying to help the Kansas City Chiefs win their third consecutive Super Bowl? With the NFL trade deadline coming on Nov. 5, another head-turning move has been made, with Patrick Mahomes surely smiling from ear to ear right now.

That's because the Chiefs have acquired All-Pro wide reciever DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. All it cost Brett Veach was a fifth-round pick - goodness. The Chiefs have been in the market for a wideout and they've pulled off a great move to help out Andy Reid's offense.

This also impacts work for NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen. With the season lost, the expectation is that the G-Men are going to be sellers at the deadline. The list of trade candidates for New York includes wideouts Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt. With this Hopkins news dropping, we can go ahead and cross off Kansas City as potential suitors:

This was a move the Chiefs had to make after losing both Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice to serious injuries. As for the Giants, it's going to be a bit of a stunner if they don't trade either Slayton or Hyatt.

Slayton might make the most sense, as he's on the final year of his contract and he's likely not going to be re-signed during free agency. With his experience, a team like the Buccaneers might be in play, as Chris Godwin is out for the season and Mike Evans is going to miss several weeks with a hamstring injury.

Then there's Hyatt. The second-year wideout has done virtually nothing for the Giants this campaign. Even when Malik Nabers was out with a concussion for two games, Hyatt didn't do anything impressive and he was barely targeted.

When the Giants first traded up to land him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, expectations were quite high for him, especially after he took Odell Beckham Jr.'s old jersey number. Now, though, Hyatt's time with the team could be coming to a close by Nov. 5. Expect Schoen to field plenty of calls on both receivers in the coming weeks, but the Chiefs won't be the ones reaching out.
