Dexter Lawrence doesn't hold back after embarrassing loss to Buccaneers
If you had to describe the New York Giants using a meme during their 30-7 beatdown by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12, the "Stop, stop, he's already dead!" meme from The Simpsons would be a good one to use. The Giants were trailing 23-0 at the half, Baker Mayfield was trolling them after scoring a rushing touchdown, and the offense tallied just 245 yards.
It was a rough day at the office for the Giants and their fans. While yes, they did only allow the Bucs to score one touchdown in the second half, it's likely more as a result of the Bucs not wanting to open up more of their playbook than anything the Giants were doing.
That being said, following the game, Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence was beyond blunt when talking about his team's performance in Week 12. Lawrence was furious after the butt-whooping his team suffered and said, "We played soft. They beat the s*** out of us today."
Dexter Lawrence accuses Giants of playing soft in Week 12 loss
Yeah, it wasn't a good day for the Giants on either side of the ball, that's for sure. While we touched on how poorly the offense did, the defense didn't hold up their end of the bargain either, allowing Mayfield to throw for 294 yards while the Buccaneers run game dashed for 156 yards and three scores.
The Giants aren't a good football team and while we already knew that, the players are clearly frustrated and wanting a change. That does not bode well for general manager Joe Schoen or head coach Brian Daboll. This team needs to hit the reset button and with Daniel Jones getting released earlier this week, it looks like they're slowly en route to making that happen.
At this point, fans aren't expecting much from the Giants. Some are probably hoping that the team continues to stack up the losses so that the team has a higher draft pick and can land one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft in May.
Right now though, Lawrence's comments ring true. The Giants didn't do anything well on Sunday and that showed in the final box score. It's been that kind of year for the G-Men.
