The NY Giants were expected to be trounced by the Indianapolis Colts, as this team is on the verge of losing nine home games in one season and earning the No. 1 overall pick. No one seems to have told starting quarterback Drew Lock that a loss is in the cards for them.
Lock has contributed to the tank admirably, as he has thrown more pick-sixes than touchdowns while losing all of his starts. Against a Colts team that is fighting for their playoff lives, Lock and rookie Malik Nabers turned into the second coming of Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.
Nabers got things started with a 31-yard screen touchdown that put the Giants ahead early. After a big Tyrone Tracy run, Lock managed to find the end zone once more in a game the Giants may have been more appreciative of if it wouldn't cost them draft position.
Lock followed things up with a rifle over the middle to Darius Slayton that also helped him find paydirt, putting the Giants up 14-3. A win could drop the Giants down to the No. 5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could end their dreams of picking either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders.
Drew Lock may ruin NY Giants tank with hot start vs. Colts
Players don't tank. Coaches don't tank, especially when Brian Daboll and his assistants could end up out of a job at the end of this season. However, fans eyeing the dawn of a new era may be incredibly irritated at the fact that they may need to surrender more capital to acquire a franchise quarterback.
The Giants will have to compete with teams like the Raiders, Titans, Browns, and inter-city rival Jets for signal-callers in the draft. With Ward and Sanders looking like the only two quarterbacks out there who will be locks to be selected in the first round, the Giants may end up without a seat in this game of musical chairs.
The Giants could be on the verge of once again winning some games late that take them firmly out of the quarterback sweepstakes. Such a win might feel good for the players after losing 10 games in a row, but Lock's sudden star turn could end up being a net negative for the organization.
