As the New York Giants look to move past their worst regular season as a franchise, all eyes are set on what they may do this offseason. Even though the entire team needs vast improvements, New York's offense may require the most attention.
After a 2024 season in which the Giants scored fewer than 20 points in 12 games and finished near the bottom of the NFL in almost every offensive category, improving the unit seems to be a top priority for Joe Schoen and Co. While it all starts with finding their next quarterback— as the Giants hold the third overall pick this April— whoever that signal-caller may be will need more weapons alongside star wideout Malik Nabers. Could this former highly touted receiver be a possible target for the Giants this offseason?
WR Elijah Moore is viewed as a possible option for the Giants in free agency
In an article from The 33rd Team, Ian Valentino predicted where this year's free-agent wide receivers may sign once the new league year opens in March. The wideout he projects the Giants to land is a bit surprising, as he has Big Blue inking a deal with Elijah Moore.
"Just 25 years old and competent as a vertical slot target and possession option with a low career drop rate of only 5.2 percent, Moore raises the floor of a unit. Looking at the New York Giants' barren receiving corps outside of Malik Nabers reveals a group that has to be overhauled. The only other notable talent in the room might be Wan'Dale Robinson, who is a small slot merchant.
There might be some overlap in terms of Robinson's and Moore's alignments, but their best areas of the field are quite different. Brian Daboll could deploy both at the same time, and they'd naturally slide into comfortable roles behind a new No. 2 receiver and Nabers."
Moore was a second-round draft selection by the New York Jets in 2021 and has failed to establish himself as a consistent NFL receiver. After two underwhelming seasons for Gang Green in 2021 and 2022— which even saw Moore request a trade due to a lack of involvement— he got his wish when he was dealt to the Cleveland Browns during the 2023 offseason.
Even though he posted a career-high 640 receiving yards and averaged over 10 yards per catch, he failed to build on that promising season in 2024, finishing with just 538 receiving yards and one touchdown. However, with the Browns dealing with a quarterback carousel that year, a potential fresh start with a new young gunslinger for the Giants in 2025 could make Moore a worthwhile gamble.
With Wan'Dale Robinson slated to be New York's primary slot receiver and hopes of Jalin Hyatt getting more reps— as Darius Slayton's future with the Giants remains uncertain— Moore could be the type of veteran wideout this offense needs. He could end up being a low-risk, high-reward signing.
