Sure, the initial news of Saquon Barkley signing with the Philadelphia Eagles was tough to swallow for the New York Giants and their fans this past offseason. But no one in the Giants organization likely anticipated Barkley being part of an Eagles team that would defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday's Super Bowl.

Unfortunately for New York, that's exactly what happened.

Less than a year after Giants general manager Joe Schoen made the decision not to re-sign Barkley in free agency, the All-Pro running back ended his 2024 season by celebrating in a sea of confetti with the Vince Lombardi trophy in his hand.

New York Giants have a new reason to fire Joe Schoen after Saquon Barkley helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl

Many New York fans already wanted Schoen gone after the conclusion of the team's 2024 season, but now Barkely winning the Super Bowl with a rival team is just another reason for Giants fans to despise the team's general manager.

Schoen appeared to have New York heading in the right direction in his first season with the organization when the team made it to the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Since then, the Giants have won a combined nine games, they overpaid and eventually cut quarterback Daniel Jones, and they let Barkley go in free agency.

Typically, general managers have found a way to get their teams on the right path by the time they are heading into their fourth offseason with the organization. Instead, Schoen might have potentially made New York even worse than they were before he was hired.

Despite the Giants' major struggles in the last two seasons, the team decided to still keep Schoen around for another year to see if he can clean up the mess he created. But based on what has happened in the last three years, New York will likely be looking for a new general manager in 2026.
