Former Giants fan favorite turned Tommy Chowder just gave Big Blue a headache

Some sights weren't meant to be seen.

Well, it took exactly one practice for New York Giants fans to be disgusted seeing former fan favorite Tommy DeVito in Patriots gear. It just doesn't look right. Like, something is clearly off. And his new number (16) just doesn't match his vibe. Regardless, it's officially official: Tommy Cutlets is now Tommy Chowder, and Giants fans will just have to deal with it.

DeVito impressed in the preseason, going 30-of-38 for 323 yards and four touchdowns. He looked every bit of a roster-worthy quarterback, so when it became clear the team was only going to carry three — Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart, and Jameis Winston — the 27-year-old was the odd man out.

And what do you know? Come roster cut day, the New Jersey native was released in a not-so-shocking, but still devastating moment. What made it worse — or better, depending on who you ask — was that he saw it coming. The emotional post-preseason media session all but confirmed he already knew his fate. Apparently, he literally knew something was happening. Speaking with the New England media, he said he wasn't surprised the Pats picked him up.

Tommy DeVito knew the Patriots would come calling after Giants release

After his electric preseason run and eventual release, Tommy Cutlets knew he'd be a hot-ticket menu item, saying:

“It was something I had a feeling was going to happen, something I was hoping was going to happen, especially with where they were ranked in the claims order,” DeVito told reporters. “I was very excited to get here. I’ve had a lot of prior coaches who have been part of this organization before, know a lot of coaches and people in the business, so I had a lot of good insight.”

Cue the eye rolls and headaches. It's great to hear how amazing things are in Foxborough and how wonderful an opportunity it is for you (I say sarcastically).

There was never a real path forward on a depth chart that already featured Wilson, Dart, and Winston. The climb was too steep.

It wasn't necessarily shocking to see DeVito land with the Pats... no matter how annoying it ultimately is. I mean, they got a front-row seat to their own annihilation by the quarterback during the preseason finale. In the 42-10 loss, Tommy Chowder completed 17 of his 20 pass attempts for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Talk about an audition.

New England was clearly in the hunt for another signal-caller. At the time, they were only rostering Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs. DeVito's waiver wire claim completes their QB much to the chagrin of Giants fans, but it's impossible to root against the kid. So, we won't.

It’s a massive bummer New York couldn’t find space for him, but that’s business. Now, every time Giants fans catch a glimpse of DeVito in that Patriots uniform, it’s going to trigger a migraine. Some sights just aren’t meant to be seen.
