The NY Giants are in the running to sign Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season and it appears to be down to them and the Pittsburgh Steelers for his services. Well, according to Adam Schefter during an appearance on ESPN Milwaukee, Rodgers might take his time to decide what he wants to do next while also pointing out that the decision shouldn't take Rodgers as long as it has.
"To me, this shouldn't be that hard. The Steelers want you. The Giants want you. We're seeing players across the league make decisions. It shouldn't be that hard. Either you want to play or you don't."
Schefter said he was told on Tuesday that "it's gonna take some time" for Rodgers to make a decision. This should make things easier for the Giants because it should lead to them removing themselves from the Rodgers sweepstakes.
NY Giants need to move on from Aaron Rodgers in free agency
The Giants even being in the Rodgers conversation is a bit confusing considering this team isn't close to contending. Signing Rodgers doesn't feel like the way to go here. They should turn their attention to the draft, whether that's doing their homework on the top options and hoping one falls to them at third overall, or trading up to the number one pick and presumably taking Cam Ward.
Rodgers is going to bring drama wherever he goes and the Giants don't need that right now. Maybe they end up signing Russell Wilson to mentor Ward or whichever quarterback they get and if that's the route they take, it'd make more sense than hoping that Rodgers has something left in the tank to make them a relevant team in 2025.
The Giants need to find a long-term solution at quarterback and while this isn't a great offseason to be in that situation, signing Aaron Rodgers isn't the answer. If he's going to take his time to make a decision, then it's time for the Giants to make one regarding him as well. Time to go in a different direction.
