The New York Giants entered the 2025 Draft with the third-overall pick, so it was obvious the team would leave the draft with at least one really good prospect. The Giants did that and then some, maximizing all three days to put together a really good draft class. Now, experts are convinced New York has some of the better day-three picks that can be immediately impactful.
Chad Reuter, in a recent piece on NFL.com, named 16 day-three picks who could compete for starter snaps as rookies. Reuter also ranked them in order of the likelihood they’ll get the opportunity. The Giants had two players on the list, both in the top 10: running back Cam Skattebo at No. 5 and offensive lineman Marcus Mbow at seven.
Cam Skattebo and Marcus Mbow named as day-three picks who could start as a rookie
Skattebo, a fourth-round pick, being this high might seem a bit surprising. Sure, he’s an instant fan favorite with an easy-to-love running style, but the Giants already have Tyrone Tracy Jr., coming off a promising rookie season, as their starter. However, Reuter believes Skattebo is “the most explosive runner on the roster.” Add in that the physical running back can also catch the ball out of the backfield, and Reuter is convinced Skattebo will become a staple in the rotation, and possibly get some starts.
Marcus Mbow being this high on the list isn’t a surprise, despite him being a fifth-round selection. He was immediately categorized as a steal with starter upside by draft analysts when his name came off the board. Reuter echoes that sentiment, saying the former Purdue Boilermaker should compete for the right guard spot in training camp. The draft analyst also says the versatile offensive lineman could get some reps at center.
If the Giants have at least two day-three picks that become starters as rookies, in addition to landing an edge rusher and a quarterback in the first round, this could be a draft class for the ages in New York.
