How does the signing impact the Giants' draft plans?

The time has finally come. The New York Giants were done waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make his decision and, instead, they signed Russell Wilson to come in and be the starter for 2025.

Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen were either sick and tired of playing the waiting game with Rodgers or they felt as though the former New York Jet was going to pick another team. Regardless, now the Giants have to serviceable options in Wilson and Jameis Winston for the coming season.

But, is their franchise quarterback on the roster? That'd still be a strong 'no.'

Because of that fact, in our latest mock draft, the Giants don't shy away from their original plan (or so we think).

The Giants stick to the plan in this 3-Round 2025 NFL mock draft

At pick no. 3, it wouldn't have made sense to draft Shedeur Sanders, even before the Wilson signing. He wasn't worth the pick. He wasn't the best player available, but his college teammate on the other hand? Travis Hunter is the pick because he's the best player on the board.

Sure, he's somewhat of an anomaly in that he truly believes he can play both sides of the ball at the pro level. But, he'll more than likely play the majority on defense, where he remains arguably the best corner in this draft class. He's the best player on the board, thus the Giants draft him. It's simple.

Early in Round 2, the Giants remain steadfast in their plan not only to take the best player available but to attack the quarterback position. Joe Schoen may have three quarterbacks already, but he's not about to take any chances. Alabama's Jalen Milroe could be the perfect type to sit for a year and then get his shot in Year 2.

What does that mean for Tommy DeVito? Well, it might actually mean the Giants are more likely to move on from someone like Jameis Winston in the end, but closer to training camp and the regular season if there's an injury elsewhere.

Once more sticking to the plan, the Giants go best player available with the first of their third rounders and snag LSU offensive tackle Emery Jones who very well could give Jermaine Eluemunor a run for his money. At the very least, Jones becomes a possible future starter and gives this team depth behind the ho-hum signing of Stone Forsythe.

With the second of their third-round picks, the Giants add to their defensive front with Florida State's Joshua Farmer. As your prototypical big man in the middle, Farmer eats up a ton of space with his size and ability to clog run lanes. He'll immediately add another dimension to the defensive line rotation and become a staple on short yardage situations.
