After signing Jameis Winston, the New York Giants weren’t done adding to their quarterback room. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants have now agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.

The 36-year-old spent last season in Pittsburgh, where he showed some flashes of his old self and helped guide the Steelers to a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance. Wilson reportedly chose the Giants over both the Steelers and Browns, giving Big Blue a high-profile veteran presence just weeks before the NFL Draft.

Wilson’s signing comes just days after the Giants added Winston on a two-year, $8 million deal. With Tommy DeVito still in the building and the No. 3 overall pick in their back pocket, the Giants’ quarterback room just went from barren to (finally) crowded in a hurry.

This likely closes the door on the Giants' Aaron Rodgers waiting game. Phew.

Giants end waiting game with Aaron Rodgers, choose Russell Wilson instead

It turns out patience was indeed wearing thin in New York after all.

The Rodgers saga had dragged out long enough, and the G-Men weren’t going to sit back and let their offseason hitch its wagon to a guy who doesn't even know if he wants to keep playing.

Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen are the definition of win-now mode. Adding Wilson, a Super Bowl champion who threw for over 2,400 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just five picks in 2024, gives them a proven option to legitimately lead the offense.

Still armed with the No. 3 pick, the Giants are in a decent position to draft a young quarterback, likely Shedeur Sanders from Colorado. But now, they can afford to sit whoever they draft for a year behind a guy who’s been through a rodeo or two... or 13.

Either way, it’s clear this front office is hedging its bets with the Wilson signing. Turns out sweetening the deal a bit was enough to get him to ditch the long-term holdout and take the one-year shot.

Wilson won a Super Bowl at MetLife back in 2014. Now he returns with a shot to end his career on his own terms and maybe rewrite one more chapter.

As for the Giants, it’s the clearest signal yet: they’re done waiting for answers. They’re going out and getting them. Wonder what Rodgers will do now.
