New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen and Co. have lost several pieces to the Tennessee Titans this offseason. For the most part, it's been a one-sided siphoning — until now.
Of course, Brian Daboll's transition from an unceremonious exit as the Giants' head coach to becoming the Titans' offensive coordinator is the common denominator. He's successfully recruited a handful of valuable contributors to join him on his new venture, but finally, defensive lineman C.J. Ravenell is bucking the trend.
The Giants have claimed Ravenell off waivers from the Titans, per the NFL's official transaction wire. New York cornerback Rico Payton was let go in a corresponding move.
Giants claim ex-Titans DL C.J. Ravenell off waivers and turn the tables on Tennessee
New York's former offensive line coach, Carmen Bricillo, was the first domino to fall. Then wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson signed a four-year $70 million contract with Tennessee. From there, corner Cor'Dale Flott, tight end Daniel Bellinger and center Austin Schlottmann all followed suit, with Ravenell being the rare exception.
For what it's worth, Big Blue brought in a couple of ex-Titans Ă la veteran quarterback Brandon Allen and his now-position coach, Brian Callahan. Neither of them appears to be long-term assets, considering the former isn't even a lock to make the 2026 53-man roster.
Sure, Ravenell isn't a household name by any stretch of the imagination; he was a fringe rotational and special teams player in Tennessee. Make no mistake about it, though, his addition to the G-Men is notable in more ways than one. The 26-year-old offers potential at a position of need and has a meaningful connection to the new regime led by John Harbaugh.
Ravenell earned his first shot in the league with Harbaugh's Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted in 2024. The Missouri Western State product spent the entire campaign on their practice squad before landing with the Titans in August 2025. Tennessee's defensive coordinator at the time was none other than Dennard Wilson, who's currently serving the same role for New York.
Uncoincidentally, Ravenell suddenly finds himself back with Harbaugh and Wilson. Their shared history adds another layer of intrigue to the Titans' raid of the Giants.
At 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, Ravenell certainly has the size to make an impact, and his familiarity with New York's scheme should only help. He recorded six tackles and a forced fumble in just 97 defensive snaps across 14 games last season.
