This Giants veteran is entering training camp with his job on the line

The New York Giants made quite a few offseason acquisitions, and the newcomers could soon bump some of the veterans out of their spot.

After a three-win season in 2024, the New York Giants are returning for training camp as a pretty different team. Of course, they made a change at the most talked about position, signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and also drafting Jaxson Dart. The Giants have also made what they believe are significant upgrades to other parts of the roster as well— especially on the defensive side of the ball.

While the new additions should be good for the team, they could be bad for some of the returning veterans. As training camp kicks off, there are a few veterans who will have to fight to keep some newcomers from jumping them on the depth chart. One of those returning veterans who fall into this category is running back Devin Singletary.

Devin Singletary could lose his RB2 job for Giants in training camp

Singletary came to New York last offseason, signing a three-year deal with the team, and he ended up as RB2 behind Tyrone Tracy Jr., who was a rookie. However, Singletary still carried the ball 113 times for 437 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 119 yards. Now, as he enters year two with the Giants, there will be another rookie running back trying to bump him down the depth chart.

New York selected Cam Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft, and the running back enters the league as one of the most exciting prospects in the draft class. Finishing his career at Arizona State, Skattebo won fans over with his Marshawn Lynch-like tackle-breaking ability. The rookie running back refuses to go down when the ball is in his hands, and he can also make plays out of the backfield as a receiver.

If he can bounce off NFL defenders the same way he did college defenders, Skattebo will certainly have a role in the Giants offense, and he will become an immediate fan favorite. If that happens, it’ll be him and Tracy as the running back duo, and Devin Singletary will be third on the depth chart, and possibly at risk of being cut.
