The NY Giants hold the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and unfortunately for them, there really are two main quarterbacks being talked about as high first-round picks. That means if the Titans and Browns take signal-callers with their first two picks, the Giants' best option at quarterback would be Jaxson Dart, who is nowhere near being worth taking that high.
That might not stop them from doing so though, especially after the latest news that affected the NFC East. With Cooper Rush departing the division to sign with the Ravens as Lamar Jackson's backup, the Cowboys need to find a new quarterback to backup Dak Prescott and Ian Rapoport reported that he wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys looked to do so sooner rather than later in this year's draft.
“How high do [the Cowboys] go? Because if you’re going to wait until the fifth or sixth or seventh round, you don’t know what kind of backup quarterback you’re getting. And honestly, by then, they may all be gone," Rapoport said on NFL Network. "This, at least, to me, means the Cowboys are considering taking [a quarterback] if not Thursday, maybe on Friday.”
NY Giants can screw over Cowboys by taking QB in first round of draft
The hope is that the Browns opt to go in a different direction with the second pick, which would leave Shedeur Sanders open for the Giants to select when they're on the clock with the third overall pick. If both Cam Ward and Sanders are off the board by then, however, the Giants could either be overly aggressive and take Dart there or move down and try to get him later on while collecting more draft capital.
With the Cowboys looking to add a quarterback, they're likely not only looking for a backup option for Prescott but potentially a successor for him too. Yes, they signed him to a lucrative contract six months ago but we all know that doesn't mean he'll be there for the entire time (just look at what happened to Russell Wilson and the Broncos a year ago).
The Giants could not only find their quarterback of the future but prevent the Cowboys from adding one to their roster as well. Win-win.
