It’s becoming harder to ignore the writing on the wall for Giants fan favorite

Tommy DeVito probably knew this was inevitable. That’s the reality of roster math when you’re the fourth quarterback in a room that’s built for three. But if it wasn’t clear before this week, the national media is doing its best to spell it out. The idea that Tommy Cutlets might not be long for New York is no longer some fringe theory. It’s officially being spoken into existence, and that's a massive bummer.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport was the latest to shine the spotlight on the inevitable. In his piece highlighting one player each team should cut, he gave the nod to none other than the local hero himself. It'll have a lot of fans gutted, but it’s unfortunately not all that surprising.

“In the offseason, the Giants completely remade the quarterback room, bringing in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and trading back into Round 1 to draft Jaxson Dart in April. The Giants aren’t going to carry four quarterbacks, and while New York would likely love to stash DeVito on the practice squad, there are just too many teams with atrocious backups for him to clear waivers,” Davenport wrote.

Tommy DeVito’s electric Giants story might be nearing its final chapter

The reality is pretty straightforward. DeVito has already won over the fanbase. He proved he can play in this league, whether anyone ever saw him as more than a break glass in case of emergency option or not.

And now that everyone else has started to notice, it makes it that much harder to see him sticking around Big Blue.

This was already shaping up to be a pretty sharp uphill climb, and that hill got a little steeper the moment he started lighting up preseason tape.

Cutlets looked sharp in his first taste of live action this summer. He went 10-for-14 with 73 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers might not mean much when the reps are limited and the competition is light, but context matters. He’s already proven he can win games. That’s more than you can say for a good chunk of backup quarterbacks in the league right now.

He’ll get another shot on Saturday when the Giants host the Jets. If he delivers again, the buzz isn’t going anywhere. Not for Tommy Tagliatelee. And for a front office still weighing its options, another strong outing might be enough to shift the conversation from “are we really thinking about keeping him?” to “we might just have to.” Talk about some 53-man fireworks.

Trades could be on the table if Joe Schoen isn't willing to lose Tommy Arancini for nothing. That includes exploring partners for Jameis Winston, too. But it's undeniable that both bring a certain pizzazz to the locker room and fan base.

If the last few days are any indication, the NFL world is starting to warm up to the idea of Tommy Cutlets trading in his New Jersey roots for a new jersey altogether. Whether the Giants want to part ways or not, they might not have much of a choice.
