It took one pass for Jameis Winston to remind NY Giants fans why they drafted Jaxson Dart

The NY Giants are throwing a lot of solutions at the wall when it comes to the quarterback position to see what sticks for the 2025 season. They signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson and traded up in the first round to snag Jaxson Dart. One of those guys is going to be leading the offense for the Giants this year.

Winston, however, might have already taken his name out of the running to even be the team's backup in 2025. While throwing at OTAs, Winston threw into a crowd and was picked off by Dane Belton.

Considering Winston's reputation in the league, this isn't a huge surprise. Still, it's frustrating that the Giants thought he might be a solution for the team this year when the Giants are hoping to avoid turning the ball over on offense. It also proves why the team felt the need to move up and take Dart in the first round when they already had Wilson and Winston on the roster.

Jameis Winston wasted no time making NY Giants fans miserable

The good news is that Brian Daboll has already confirmed that Wilson will be the starting quarterback of the Giants when the regular season gets underway. Many figured that Winston would be the backup but once Dart entered the picture, that's where things became dicier.

If Winston continues to show his proneness to turnovers in OTAs, it might be an easier decision for the Giants to make as far as who wins the backup job. If (it feels more like when) Dart takes the backup gig over Winston, the Giants could put the former number one pick on the trade market or outright release him (or keep him on as a third-string option).

Sure, this is just one pass at OTAs, but given Winston's history of turning the ball over, it's easy to overreact here. Winston has the ability to make some incredible throws but for a young Giants team that's hoping to turn the corner sooner rather than later, bringing a quarterback in who turns the ball over is a questionable decision.

That being said, at least the Giants seemed to know that this would be temporary, and that became even clearer when they selected Dart. The Ole Miss product has given Giants fans hope that the next several years of NY Giants football will be competitive and fun to watch.
