There's a real chance the New York Giants come away with a new head coach come January. Interim head coach Mike Kafka has done an admirable job since taking over for Brian Daboll, but ownership might look to completely overhaul the staff, Kafka included, if things don't turn around yesterday.

One staff member has already been made safe... at least, for now. General manager Joe Schoen was kept on, as Giants brass believes he's done a good job assembling a talented group of young players. They believe the root cause of the issues stems from a lack of player development and poor coaching. Additionally, they've announced he'll be an integral piece in their coaching search.

But there's a chance he might not be, especially if that comes at the expense of missing out on one of the more polarizing HC options potentially on the market. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Bill Belichick's name could make the carousel rounds, with at least two teams interested in his services.

A third team is rumored to be interested, but it would require one specific personnel change in the front office. And no situation fits that description better than the Giants-Schoen dilemma.

Bill Belichick coaching buzz puts Joe Schoen’s Giants future in question

There's no other way around it, Anderson just dropped one heckuva bomb here. While she didn't outright say it was Big Blue's situation, it's easy to read between the lines. Her exact words were:

"'A third team could also enter the mix,' with desires to talk, particularly if one specific personnel change is made under ownership, the source added."

By that reporting, it's impossible not to draw conclusions.

It’s objectively laughable to think the 46-year-old could be heading up the coaching search and even consider Belichick as a real candidate. It would likely cost him his job.

As Anderson noted, Bill is a my-way-or-the-highway kinda guy. The 73-year-old wouldn't accept the position unless he had full control over the football operations, essentially playing both GM and HC.

It's also fair to wonder how much Belichick has left in the tank. The last time he was coaching an NFL sideline, he was leading the New England Patriots to a 4-13 record, while seemingly intentionally sabotaging them. Without Tom Brady, his regular-season record is 83-101. That's not exactly amazing. Turns out it helps having the greatest quarterback of all time to help inflate some numbers.

Moreover, the 29-year NFL coach is struggling mightily in the college ranks at Chapel Bill, going 4-7 with a slew of off-the-field issues going on. Even still, who knows? Maybe John Mara is feeling nostalgic and wants to bring Bill Parcells' defensive coordinator back to North Jersey. Crazier things have happened.
