Jaxson Dart & Cam Skattebo did something no Giants rookies have done in decades

The foundation is there.

The New York Giants are a franchise rich in history. Forget what recent memory suggests, this is a proud organization that has its footprints all over the league — 101 years will do it.

Even still, after 10-plus decades of football, the G-Men are still adding to the record books. In Sunday's 21-18 Week 4 stunner over the Los Angeles Chargers, two rookies etched their names in Giants' lore with electric performances.

After rushing for 79 yards and 54 yards respectively, running back Cam Skattebo and quarterback Jaxson Dart were the first pair of NY rookies to run over 50-plus yards in the same game since 1980, when Larry Heater and Leon Perry did so against the Dallas Cowboys (per NFL researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming).

Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo are already rewriting Giants history

It's only fitting that it's these two maniacs. They made headlines in the offseason with their head-butting antics, and apparently haven't stopped since.

Unfortunately, if history is repeating itself, things aren't going to necessarily look up for the G-Men any time soon. Funny, or begrudgingly enough, their 1-3 record mirrors the same winning percentage the '80 team finished with (4-12). So while it's cool the rookies are doing their thing, it's not exactly the company they'd like to keep.

The schedule suggests that's where this duo is likely heading, but beating a previously undefeated Chargers team suggests there's enough juice on the roster to still make this season interesting.

Dart's debut went about as well as it could have. Sure, the boxscore could have looked more kindly on the 22-year-old, but a win is a win. He completed 13-of-20 passes for 111 yards, with one passing touchdown, 54 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown. He was the first to accomplish such a feat since Tim Tebow.

Meanwhile, Skatte-boom is riding a bit of a hot streak at the perfect time. After a strong showing in Week 2 against the Cowboys, head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka have fully leaned into the Cam Skattebo experience.

In the past two games, the 23-year-old has amassed 211 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. He's been a huge reason for the uptick in offensive consistency, and now paired with a better option under center, who knows what this offense is capable of.

Of course, losing star receiver Malik Nabers for the season is not going to help this offense at all. However, with this dynamic duo getting hot, don't rule this team out just yet. They’ve already started rewriting Big Blue's history. No reason to think they’re done.
