The New York Giants dropped an ugly Week 5 loss on the road against the New Orleans Saints just a week after upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers at home in Jaxson Dart's debut, which gave many Big Blue fans hope about the future of the franchise.
This past week was a setback for the G-Men as they dropped arguably their most winnable game on the schedule, with the Saints entering the game 0-4 on the season. It was a combination of penalties and turnovers that ultimately cost them this game, as the Giants committed five consecutive turnover drives (three fumbles and two interceptions), and accumulated eight penalties for 95 yards.
It's safe to say this was your classic "Welcome to the NFL" game for Dart and fellow rookie Cam Skattebo, who combined for four of those turnovers as they each fumbled the ball, and the rookie quarterback threw two interceptions. I'd be lying if I said this didn't suck the life out of the locker room after the game. Still, the Giants can't dwell on this loss for too long, as they have a short week ahead with a Thursday Night game against the Philadelphia Eagles. As the leader of this offense, Dart understands the significance of this game for Big Blue.
Jaxson Dart makes it clear all he wants is to win after his Week 5 disaster
While Week 5 was not the outcome the G-Men had hoped for, the game didn't start poorly for Big Blue at all, as it appeared that Dart picked up right where he left off. He threw two touchdowns to tight end Theo Johnson on their first two drives of the game.
Dart and Johnson's chemistry has continued to grow, and now, with Malik Nabers being sidelined for the remainder of the season, he'll step up significantly. Not to mention Darius Slayton had a rough game, marked by a fumble and a few dropped passes and left the game with a hamstring injury.
Theo has the opportunity, with a depleted room of pass catchers, to emerge as a significant contributor on offense and quickly become Dart's favorite target. In fact, Dart has three passing touchdowns, and they have all gone Johnson's way, which should tell you all you need to know about his importance to this team right now.
After the game, Dart was asked by the media what he took away from the first two drives of the game, which resulted in Johnson scoring a touchdown. Dart stated that he is not into "moral victories" and that he doesn't really care about what happened during the game because the team lost:

He started the post-game press conference by saying, "This one is on me," and when he was asked why, he replied with, "I'm the leader of the offense." Although the Giants lost this game, and it does sting, it feels nice to hear a quarterback take accountability and own up to his mistakes.
For now, the G-Men will head home to prepare for the reigning Super Bowl Champion Eagles, which will not be an easy matchup for them at all, and if there's anything we can take away from this game and Dart's comments, it's that he's not satisfied and will likely play with a chip on his shoulder. We'll see if he has another upset up his sleeve in front of Big Blue Nation, but this time in primetime.
