To New York Giants fans, these next four games don’t mean much, as the team has already been eliminated from playoff contention and currently occupies the first overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft. While Big Blue may trade away its first overall pick, many fans hope the G-Men tank to put them in a position to add a top prospect or draft capital.
Most fans are focused on the future, where they’ll get to watch a full season of starting quarterback Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers, and Cam Skattebo returning from their season-ending injuries. Not to mention, Big Blue will have a new head coach next season, and changes will be made.
Although most fans have shifted their attention to next season, the players, specifically Dart, are tired of losing this year and have not yet moved on to next season. They still have one goal on their mind for the remaining games on their schedule this season: to win.
Jaxson Dart's goal for the Giants' final four games this season is to win
The Giants' rookie quarterback met with the media earlier this week. When asked what he’s looking to accomplish in the team’s final four games this season, Dart said he wants to win.
It’s clear that Dart does not care about tanking and wants to win; he’s done a tremendous job in his rookie campaign despite a frustrating season that included two star players suffering serious injuries, the firing of head coach Brian Daboll, and 11 losses, including the last seven games.
It just goes to show you the type of player and person the 22-year-old is. He recognizes that he has a job to do and knows that the team gave him this opportunity for a reason. That mentality will go a long way in this league.
You have to imagine that interim head coach Mike Kafka and the rest of the Giants' current coaching staff feel the same way about this season; they want to win because they are fighting for their jobs.
Although Kafka isn't likely the franchise’s next long-term head coach, he knows that if he can prove something to Joe Schoen and the front office in these next four games, he will be under consideration as a candidate.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported recently that the Giants' list of candidates for their head coaching vacancy includes Jeff Hafley, Lou Anarumo, Kliff Kingsbury, Klint Kubiak, and Marcus Freeman.
Luckily for Dart, Kafka, and company, the schedule favors the Giants over the next four weeks, as they will face the Commanders, Vikings, Raiders, and Cowboys, and have four more chances to accomplish their goal and make a statement.
