While a potential reunion with Odell Beckham Jr. is garnering all of the headlines, he may not be the only legacy reunion John Harbaugh pursues with the New York Giants. Jason Pierre-Paul is making his campaign to return to where it all began nearly a decade after they shipped him off to Tampa Bay.
Pierre-Paul went on Twitter with a very pointed message to the Giants, posting that he's still available if they need him. So even though he's 37 years old and probably pretty desperate to continue his playing career, I wouldn't pass Harbs to bring him back after he played for him in Baltimore in 2022.
The three-time Pro Bowler was a game-wrecker for New York in the past, but he's not that player anymore. Pierre-Paul spent the last three seasons as a career journeyman in New Orleans and Miami before returning to the Bucs in 2025, but the Florida native still has an itch to return to the Big Apple.
The New York Giants have no reason to pursue a reunion with Jason Pierre-Paul
However, just because he's interested doesn't mean anyone else should be. The fanbase loved JPP a while ago, but he hasn't surpassed five sacks in a season since a 9.5-sack campaign with Tampa Bay in 2020, so not only is he desperate, he's pretty washed-up for a player who used to be a star edge.
While bringing back the three-time Pro Bowler would be admittedly a very fun trip down memory lane, it would not be a very smart business decision. I'm sure he has a lot of wisdom to provide Abdul Carter, but wasting a roster spot for nostalgia purposes is something that only works in Madden.
The fanbase will always have a soft spot for the two-time Super Bowl champ, but at his age, I don't believe he has much left in the tank. He hasn't recorded a sack since 2022, so if the Giants are trying to re-establish their defensive line as one of the best in the NFL, they need more recent production.
It's this sort of emotional thinking from Giants fans that's part of why the team has been in the toilet for the better part of the last decade, and Joe Schoen listening to that criticism is just as alarming. If Harbaugh wants to bring in the best players across the board, they could do a lot better than JPP, regardless of what the fanbase says.
If he really wants to come back, the USF product better find a way to join Harbs' coaching staff, because there's no place for him on the active roster.
