The New York Giants are gearing up for the next rendition of the most anticipated event of the year: the NFL Draft. This is where the stars of tomorrow are first introduced to their beloved fanbases.

When looking at the Giants’ draft capital, new head coach John Harbaugh had a funny initial reaction to the number of picks they had. It is no secret that this franchise has been bad for a very long time, but mismanagement in getting the best possible return for former star players like Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones has handcuffed them a bit when it comes to future investments.

In a recent interview with Adam Schein, Giants reporter Paul Schwartz explained that Harbs was confused as to what's going on with the team's draft pick situation, saying, "For a bad team, why don't we have more picks?"

Giants need to make the most of their limited 2026 draft picks

The G-Men are expected to make seven selections on draft weekend, with no pick coming in the third round. They of course have the fifth-overall selection, followed by picks 37, 105, 145, 186, 192, and 193.

There are a couple of different scenarios here to explore. The Giants can use that fifth pick to select their next potential franchise stud, or trade it down to get more picks in the second and third rounds. Or, there is the possibility of landing an established name in the NFL with that high-tier pick and forgoing additional draft stock.

Another interesting thing to look at will be those two final picks at 192 and 193 in the sixth round. There is a slight chance that coupling those two picks could help them move up into the fifth, should they wish to explore what's available.

With a young core in Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, and Cam Skattebo on offense, it might make sense to start getting some more young pieces to compete with them. The Giants can ultimately turn it around this upcoming season, but to be considered as a bona fide contender, there needs to be sustainability. A fifth-overall pick used the right way can secure that.

With the recent shellshock of Dexter Lawrence wanting out, and a pending trade potentially on the way, there is now a large hole to fill in the center of the defensive line. That hope for Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love has now started to fade, and Ohio State DT Kayden McDonald might jump up the Draft board.

Either way, the Giants have a lot of interesting storylines heading into the first round of the NFL Draft, which will be held on April 23. Does Harbaugh get his wish for more picks, or do the Giants go all-out and use them to bring in their future legends in the making?
