There haven’t been many positives in the New York Giants’ 2024 season. Big Blue currently sits at 2-12, riding a franchise-record nine-game losing streak, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they drop their final three games as well.

Adding to the misery has been the awful play at the quarterback position. Daniel Jones, in the second year of his four-year, $160 million contract, was cut after 10 frustrating games. Tommy DeVito’s magic from last season now looks like a fluke, and Drew Lock’s veteran presence has done nothing to stabilize the position in his first season with the team.

The situation hit rock bottom on Sunday in a blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. With Lock sidelined by a heel injury and DeVito leaving early with a concussion, the Giants turned to longtime backup Tim Boyle—their fourth quarterback of the season. At this point, it’s painfully clear: the Giants have no choice but to find their next franchise quarterback in the draft.

The G-Men's QB disaster forces the team to find their next franchise signal-caller this spring

Starting four different quarterbacks in a single season is a recipe for disaster, and the Giants have cooked up exactly that. Heading into their Week 16 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, the team faces uncertainty about who will even start under center. Boyle, who stepped in on Sunday, looks like he’ll get the nod, but does it really matter?

Boyle did show a brief spark, connecting with rookie standout Malik Nabers for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but his performance—like Lock’s and DeVito’s—doesn’t hide how disastrous the position has been. Since Week 12, the trio of Lock, Boyle, and DeVito has combined for just 824 passing yards and one touchdown. Those numbers are unacceptable by any standard, but they’re downright embarrassing for a franchise still celebrating its 100th season.

If there’s one silver lining to this quarterback carousel, it’s that the Giants aren’t even trying to hide their intentions anymore. They’ve clearly punted on the rest of the regular season and are all-in on securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

None of these quarterbacks are the answer for Big Blue in 2025 and beyond. The team’s struggles at the position have proven one thing: finding their next franchise signal-caller must be the top priority. Whether it’s Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, or another top prospect, the Giants need to use their likely No. 1 pick to draft the quarterback who can finally turn this franchise around.

For a team that’s endured years of mediocrity and back-to-back dismal seasons, this is a critical moment. The Giants have the opportunity to hit the reset button with a fresh face at quarterback, and they can’t afford to miss. Enough is enough—it’s time to look ahead.
