The 2026 offseason was a period of change for the New York Giants, but it was filled with excitement, as the franchise appeared to be moving in the right direction. The one dark cloud hovering over New York’s offseason were all the concerning updates about Malik Nabers’ health.
However, with training camp now underway, Nabers’ health finally had a positive update that fans can get excited about. The first dose of that excitement came when it was announced that the receiver wouldn’t be starting camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
The next, and biggest dose thus far, came on Wednesday, when Nabers was actually on the field practicing.

Malik Nabers goes through limited practice to start Giants training camp
The receiver practiced in a limited capacity, only going through individual drills, but in those drills, he was running, stopping, cutting, and running full routes. It was a great sight to see, and not a sight many New York fans thought they would see on the first day of camp, after all the updates about Nabers undergoing an additional surgery and experiencing knee stiffness.
The wideout’s health seemingly took a turn for the better in the latter half of the offseason, and there now seems to be a serious chance that he could be ready to go in time for Week 1. Of course, it’s still incredibly early, and Nabers will have to go through a ramp up period and check off several more boxes before he gets to that point, but with Week 1 not until September 13th, fans have reason to be hopeful.
Nabers proved as a rookie that he’s one of the best wide receivers in the NFL when he’s on the field, so that’s why the Giants would love to have him in the lineup for all 17 games. All eyes will be on the receiver’s availability for the Week 1 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
With Dalls being New York’s first opponent, fans can’t help but think about Nabers posting nine receptions for 167 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the Cowboys in Week 2 of last season. Two weeks later, the receiver’s season was over with the knee injury. It’d be great if he can return in Week 1, in primetime, and remind the world who he is.
