With the New York Giants on pace to finish with one of their worst records in franchise history and likely land the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it looks like a long rebuild is on the horizon in New York. That also means sweeping changes to the roster will take place as Big Blue endures yet another 10-plus-loss season—their second straight and the seventh in nine years.
While the main question for the Giants will be who their next quarterback is in 2025, there are other lingering questions about key players on this squad. One of those players is wide receiver Darius Slayton, a reliable veteran for the G-Men since entering the league in 2019.
After reworking his contract this offseason following a dispute, the 2019 fifth-round pick may have reached the end of his tenure with the Giants after six underrated years in New York. And with a former Giants wideout not panning out at all on this AFC East team, could Slayton be an option for them next season?
Miami Dolphins pushed to sign Slayton after the Odell Beckham Jr. experience failed
The Miami Dolphins believed they were getting a reliable veteran wideout in Odell Beckham Jr. when they signed the former Giants great to a one-year deal last season. Unfortunately, the 2024 campaign has been anything but that for Miami. Beckham managed just nine receptions for 55 yards, with no touchdowns, before being let go after a disastrous stint that ended the experiment.
In a recent Bleacher Report article, one of the Dolphins’ biggest needs is identified as finding a reliable third wideout to complement Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The story suggests Miami target pending free agent Darius Slayton for the 2025 season. While Slayton doesn’t carry the same star power as Beckham, the move makes sense for the Dolphins.
Slayton, just 27 years old, has been a consistent performer, despite never surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He has tallied at least 720 receiving yards in five of his six NFL seasons. With the Giants likely headed into full rebuild mode, Slayton may be on his way out regardless.
The Giants already have rookie phenom Malik Nabers, solid slot receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt. Despite Hyatt’s dreadful sophomore campaign in 2024, he is still viewed as a dangerous playmaker with a promising future in the NFL. Given the Giants’ young receiving corps and their direction toward a rebuild, a move to Miami makes sense for Slayton.
Set to hit the open market this offseason, Slayton would bring reliability and a steady presence to the Dolphins’ offense. After the Beckham experiment failed so spectacularly, Miami may find their answer in another former Giants receiver—this time with a better chance of success.
