One of the more under-the-radar moves the New York Giants made this offseason was re-signing LB Micah McFadden to a one-year extension. McFadden fielded external interest from several other teams, but the Giants' ability to retain him was crucial, especially after the release of Bobby Okereke.

When a player could've easily cashed in on a multi-year deal elsewhere, it's telling that he chose to ink a one-year, prove-it deal to stay in New York. Not only is he betting on himself, but he's betting on John Harbaugh and this new coaching staff to turn one of the NFL's most illustrious franchises around.

When asked why he chose to return, the 26-year-old revealed he's excited about the direction the Giants are headed under Harbaugh. He even expressed excitement about the new defensive scheme under Dennard Wilson, but I'm not sure what's better, Wilson's entrance or Shane Bowen being gone.

""I think they've got a great thing going that they've been building around here and I'm excited to be in this scheme""

It's telling that many Giants fans were bracing for McFadden to chase a bag elsewhere like Wan'Dale Robinson and Cor'Dale Flott did by following Brian Daboll to Tennessee. But his loyalty and willingness to see things through are commendable, especially since that's loyalty most young players don't have.

John Harbaugh and the new coaching staff helped set the stage for Micah McFadden to return to New York

To be completely honest, it's hard to blame McFadden in his reasoning. The 2022 fifth-round pick missed the rest of 2025 after suffering a season-ending foot injury in the season opener. He didn't exactly have the most leverage, but things can only get better with this new staff coming to town.

The Indiana product surpassed 100 tackles in 2023 and 2024, so when he's healthy, he's made a major impact on the defense. I would expect Tremaine Edmunds to be the one wearing the green dot for Wilson's unit, but McFadden is a guy whose presence has consistently made the defense better.

McFadden only turned 26 in January, so he evidently has a bright future in New York if he chooses. But based on these comments, it sounds like he's ready to return to the field and prove he still has what it takes to be a high-level contributor while silencing those who are questioning his decision.

It doesn't matter what the salty Jets fans who wanted him think. He clearly has unfinished business in New York and is ready to get to work with a Super Bowl-winning head coach, so I hope his faith in Wilson, the new system, and Harbs are well-placed and pay off for him during this time next year.
