New angle of Isaiah Simmons' FG block is something every Giants fan will enjoy
After controlling the game for most of the day, the NY Giants seemed poised to let it slip away in the final minutes against the Seahawks. Shane Bowen’s defense surrendered a quick touchdown with two minutes to go, and a punt put Geno Smith and the Seahawks in position to steal a win or send it to overtime.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Isaiah Simmons was the hero and split two linemen to block Jason Myers' field-goal attempt that Bryce Ford-Wheaton returned for a game-sealing touchdown. This potential season-saving play has Giants fans buzzing, as the team moved to 2-3. A new angle of the unforgettable moment is sure to fire up the Big Blue faithful once more:
Game-winning blocked field goal by Isaiah Simmons was picture-perfect
In the clip, Simmons passes through Seattle's field goal unit completely unblocked and has a clear shot to the ball. The electric block silenced the Lumen Field crowd and gave NY its second win of the 2024 campaign, potentially marking a turning point in the season. It was poetry in motion for the G-Men.
Arguably the best part of it is when the replay shows Simmons knocking Myers to the ground as he tries to catch up with Ford-Wheaton. Since the ball was live, he was no longer subject to a roughing the kicker penalty, and the former Clemson star took full advantage by delivering one final blow to the Seahawks.
It has been a long time coming for Simmons, who appeared to be completely phased out of the Giants' game plan after playing zero defensive snaps in the season-opener. He saw his usage slowly climb in the ensuing weeks, and it paid off in a big way for both sides. Surprisingly, he did not play a defensive snap vs. Seattle either, but the coaching staff may be compelled to use him in a few defensive packages following his Week 5 heroics.
This moment is one Simmons has earned, and he should be basking in the glory. The Giants might not have come out on top if Myers drilled the field goal and the game extended to overtime. Brian Daboll and his squad will look to carry over this momentum heading into a primetime showdown against the Bengals on Sunday.
