The New York Giants seem to have a strong core on their roster after the first week of regular-season action. Stars like Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, and Abdul Carter won't be going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
But the team has plenty of players on expiring or one-year contracts who are fighting for long-term deals. From former top draft picks to low-cost swings, New York's roster is full of players still looking to prove themselves.
As Big Blue enters Week 2, here's where all 18 players set to hit free agency in 2027 stand. We excluded players currently recovering from long-term injuries.
Giants 2027 free agents who raised their value in Week 1
EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux, C John Michael Schmitz Jr., WR Darnell Mooney, TE Chris Manhertz, RB Devin Singletary
The Thibodeaux saga lives on, though it's no longer about whether he'll be traded. The former first-round pick was clearly the Giants' third edge rusher against the Cowboys, but he played well, producing three pressures. He consistently forced Dak Prescott off his spot, with his pursuit of the QB contributing to Jevon Holland's interception.
Mooney didn't get much action, but he was effective when targeted, hauling in two catches, including an impressive snag late in the first half that led to an Isaiah Likely score.
Giants 2027 free agents who maintained value in Week 1
CB Deonte Banks, CB Greg Newsome II, DT Shelby Harris, DT Josh Tupou (DNP), RB Najee Harris (DNP), G Aaron Stinnie, WR Odell Beckham Jr., LB Zaire Barnes, Nic Jones (DNP)
Many of these players didn't see the field in Week 1, either due to lingering injuries or their place on the depth chart.
Of those who did play significant roles, Banks and Newsome II were the trickiest to place. Both starting cornerbacks had up-and-down days against the Cowboys, getting penalized and allowing a couple of key receptions. Still, they limited one of the NFL's best wide receiver tandems to a relatively quiet night.
Both cornerbacks are currently recovering from minor injuries as the Giants prepare for their Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Giants 2027 free agents who lowered their value in Week 1
LB Micah McFadden, S Ar'Darius Washington, S Elijah Campbell, S Jason Pinnock (DNP)
There's a major difference between not playing due to injury and simply not playing. McFadden only played on special teams despite being the Giants' third off-ball linebacker, and Washington took just one snap on defense. Both players are still important depth pieces, but they clearly haven't shown enough to force their way onto the field.
These defenders will need to either become dominant special teamers or show their value on defense to stick around.
