NY Giants could take another step toward infamous history vs Ravens

The kind of infamous history the G-Men are approaching is something they’d much rather steer clear of.

While the New York Giants didn’t have high expectations entering the 2024 season, no one expected things to be this dreadful. After yet another loss—this time at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, 14-11, on a blocked field goal that would have tied the game and sent it to overtime—Big Blue is now 2-11 and riding an eight-game losing streak.

Adding insult to injury, the Giants are 0-7 at home in 2024, having been outscored 164-71 by their opponents while managing just six total touchdowns at MetLife Stadium. They are now on the verge of setting a record for home losses in a season. Yay.

The team is currently tied for the franchise record, set in 1974 and matched in 1983 and 2003. In 1974, the Giants went winless at home (0-7) under first-year head coach Bill Arnsparger—the only time in their 100-year history that they failed to win a single home game.

With two home games left, the team is running out of time to avoid making the kind of infamous history no team wants to set—especially in their centennial season.

The Giants are on pace to rewrite the NFL history books in the worst way possible

The G-Men have two chances to avoid becoming the first team in NFL history to go 0-9 at home in a single season. Those opportunities come this Sunday in Week 15 against the Baltimore Ravens and in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts. This dubious distinction would be embarrassing enough, but the sting is even worse considering it’s the Giants’ centennial season.

Unfortunately for the Giants and their fans, this history feels almost inevitable. They’re facing a Ravens team led by MVP candidate Lamar Jackson, who commands one of the league’s best offenses, and a Colts team fighting to secure a playoff spot in the AFC.

With New York’s defense decimated by injuries and an offense that hasn’t looked much better regardless of whether Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito is under center, avoiding this unwanted milestone seems like a long shot.

It’s been a miserable season for Brian Daboll and company. On top of potentially losing their final two home games, the Giants could very well drop their last four games altogether, finishing the 2024 season on a franchise-record 12-game losing streak. For a season that began with low expectations, the depths it has reached are hard to fathom.
