Colorado’s pro day will be held Friday in Boulder, and we know one thing for sure: it’s going to be packed. Part of that is because several teams are sending coaches and scouts to get a closer look at the Buffaloes’ prospects. The other reason? The New York Giants are sending what feels like their entire front office to check out Shedeur Sanders. Due diligence at its finest.
According to ESPN's Peter Schrager, the G-Men are sending Brian Daboll (who doesn't do pro days), Joe Schoen, Brandon Brown, their director of player personnel, assistant director of player personnel, their offensive and defensive coordinators, and at least five others. Like we said, seemingly every decision-maker will be in attendance.
Big Blue owns the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, and there’s a very real chance Sanders could be the guy they select—if he’s available. Even though they signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, they still need a quarterback for the future. Sanders is widely considered the second-best option behind Miami’s Cam Ward.
Is this overkill? Maybe. Is it smart? Absolutely. It’s homework time. Schoen and Daboll don’t have the luxury of getting this pick wrong.
Shedeur Sanders will have Giants eyes all over him at Colorado's pro day
As incredible as Sanders’ college career has been, he still isn’t regarded as a top-three lock. As we inch closer to the 2025 NFL Draft, it feels like his stock has slipped a bit. You can find Sanders slotted anywhere from No. 2 overall to the second round. So sending everyone and their mother to see what he can do at his pro day makes a ton of sense.
Sanders is a high-level, accurate passer who’s used to the spotlight. New York wouldn’t be “too big” for him the way it might be for other prospects. He’s dealt with a leaky offensive line before, but when protected, he absolutely carves up defenses with precision. He’s a plus athlete—no one’s comparing him to Lamar Jackson—but he can move. The biggest knock against him, like with many top-tier college quarterbacks, is that he holds onto the ball too long. We’ve heard the same gripe with Caleb Williams. But Daboll could coach that out of him. He’s moldable. He’s coachable.
It’ll be interesting to see how he performs. Travis Hunter won’t be putting on a full show, but he will run routes for Shedeur—giving the Giants a rare “two birds, one pro day” scenario. Hunter is also very much in consideration at No. 3. Either way, Sanders’ day on Friday could have major draft implications for the Giants.
The cavalry is coming—and if Shedeur shows out, he might just give New York the clarity it’s been searching for. The Giants can’t afford to miss again at quarterback, and they’re doing everything they can to make sure they don’t.
