It might still be early in the 2025 season, but the New York Giants are already off to a horrendous start. They’re now 0-3 to begin the year, something that last happened back in 2021. Let’s face it, this franchise has done a whole lot of losing lately. And as far as the 2025 campaign goes, to borrow a phrase from Yogi Berra: “It’s getting late early.”
How much more losing do fans have to suffer through? Going back to last season, the Giants have dropped 14 of their last 15 games. They’ve also lost nine of their last 10 home games at MetLife Stadium, Sunday night’s 22-9 embarrassment against the Kansas City Chiefs included. That loss marked Kansas City’s first-ever road win against the G-Men. Before that? The Chiefs were 0-7 at MetLife. But since the Giants are in the business of breaking all the wrong records, they handed them the win.
Most of the fanbase is already treating the season like it’s over, with many turning their attention to the 2026 NFL Draft. Yes, seriously. Mock drafts are already flooding social media. And if that’s not bad enough, history is definitely not on the Giants’ side when it comes to teams that start the season 0-3, as pointed out by Ralph Vacchiano:
From 1933 (the first NFL season with playoffs) through 2024, 329 teams have started a season 0-3.

Six of those (1.8%) have made the playoffs.
So good night to the Giants, Jets, Dolphins, Titans, Texans and Saints. See you all at the draft. pic.twitter.com/iJSKmvZhHE
The Giants have laughable odds of making the playoffs with terrible 0-3 start
Yeah... six teams out of 329 certainly won't make fans feel good about New York's chances. And what have they shown this year that they're even remotely capable of turning things around?
As mentioned before, this isn’t the first time New York has started 0-3. The last time was 2021, although for that team’s sake, the streak ended with a win against the New Orleans Saints, who happen to be this year’s Week 5 opponent. But first, they’ve got the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, and many aren’t expecting them to end the skid like they did four years ago.
If anything, a lot of people think the Giants could potentially mirror several of their other abysmal starts to the regular season, like their 0-5 start to the 2020 season. Or the 0-5 start to the 2017 season. And the worst one of the most recent time, a 0-6 start to the 2013 season. In all of those seasons, they failed to make the playoffs.
So if you are the betting type and have placed a bet on Big Blue making the postseason, or were planning on doing so, it might be all but guaranteed that they won’t, because the Giants will likely not be playing postseason football for the third season in a row.
But who knows? Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is set to make his debut in Week 4. Maybe his insertion into the lineup flips the season on its head.
