It was another unfortunate, lost year for the New York Giants franchise in 2025. Another year of missing the playoffs thanks to a 4-13 record, but that doesn't mean there was some good within the organization. Although rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo stole the headlines, there was one standout under-the-radar player on the defensive side.
As Pro Football Focus' Zach Tantillo states in his article, cornerback Cor'Dale Flott was the secret superstar for the Giants. In what was a contract year for the four-year veteran, Flott more than earned his next deal. He came into the year as CB No. 2 after the front office signed Paulson Adebo to big money in the offseason.
Poor play and injuries hampered Adebo's debut season with Big Blue, and Flott had no problem stepping into the spotlight. Flott became the shutdown corner the Giants have desperately needed, allowing a team-low 51.6 percent completion rate and only allowing one touchdown. Plus, opposing quarterbacks only had a 71 passer rating when throwing Flott's way, which was the best out of any Giants defender.
Re-signing Cor'Dale Flott needs to be the Giants' top offseason priority
As we enter the offseason, a lot of moves will be made now that John Harbaugh has officially taken the helm as head coach. One of these moves has to be keeping Flott in the building. The organization and fans have waited years for a good cornerback, and they finally got one in 2025.
The front office needs to learn from the mistake of letting safety Xavier McKinney walk and not show another solid, homegrown defensive player the door. There isn't a cornerback in the upcoming free agent class much better than what we saw from Flott, if at all. The guy has paid his dues for the organization, gotten better each year, and deserves to be part of the new era.
A lot of talk will be about wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson and his potential contract renewal, but that should come second to the Flott situation. Robinson can be replaced with the deep receiving class in the draft, but Flott can't be switched out that easily.
