At 2-7, the New York Giants aren’t expected to be major players in Tuesday’s trade deadline frenzy. If anything, they’re more likely to be sellers — hoping to offload expiring contracts and underperforming players who could use a change of scenery.
But there’s a world where general manager Joe Schoen bucks that expectation, takes out the credit card, and gets aggressive. The Giants need help just about everywhere, but one position — maybe more excessive want than actual need — stands out: wide receiver.
One deadline deal may have just kicked off a domino effect that could benefit Big Blue. In a not-so-surprising move, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is headed to the Jacksonville Jaguars:
ESPN sources: Raiders are trading WR Jakobi Meyers to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for fourth- and sixth-round picks.

With Travis Hunter and Meyers now crowding the depth chart, second-year wideout Brian Thomas Jr. may find himself getting squeezed out. The 23-year-old has had an uneven sophomore season, but that doesn’t mean Schoen shouldn’t pick up the phone.
Giants should explore Brian Thomas Jr. trade after Jaguars WR shuffle
The Giants’ offense has become increasingly vanilla over the past couple of games, with star receiver Malik Nabers out with a torn ACL and rookie running back Cam Skattebo also out until 2026 with a dislocated ankle. It’s clear rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart needs all the help he can get. The 22-year-old is being asked to do too much, which is where Thomas Jr. comes into play.
The odds of prying Thomas Jr. away aren’t great, and the Jaguars may not be actively looking to sell low on the 23rd overall pick from 2024. But with the Meyers trade signaling a shift in Jacksonville’s priorities, the door has cracked open just a bit.
The Giants were rumored to be interested in Meyers' services earlier in the season. So, say hello, irony, if the 29-year-old's trade to another team becomes the catalyst for a more electric deadline deal for Big Blue.
If the Giants can make something happen and land Thomas Jr., they’d go from sitting out the deadline to quietly coming out on top — and actually start showing they’re serious about building around Jaxson Dart and moving the franchise forward.
